I always wanted to try using charcoal and mixing dark colors together because I once saw a picture of a horse and it was so lifelike that I wanted to try it myself. I thought the owl was the perfect subject because of how mysterious they are. In the end, I wasn't really happy with how it turned out because I thought the eyes were not detailed enough. However, I think that every drawing is a learning process and now that I am more familiar with using charcoal, next time I will try to improve on the details of the paintings.

In this piece, I wanted to learn how to use scrap materials as a good background for the object I was trying to focus on. As you can see, because the hummingbird needs the flower for its nectar, I cut up a piece of flower from a local newspaper that I found. Next, I found a new article about forests being burnt down and thought how much it related to hummingbirds as they need the forest to survive. Overall, I was proud of the outcome.

In this piece, my goal was to try to create a landscape painting with watercolor. But to challenge myself, I only used three different colors throughout the whole time. Two different shades of blue and one shade of purple. This piece took me about three to four hours to finish and I was proud of the result.

This piece was the first actual artwork I made after getting back into drawing and watercolor. I decided to use Thor as my subject because he is my favourite superhero. My main goal was to try to improve in blending different skin tones and shadows. I was happy with the outcome as it was my first watercolor portrait in a long time and I thought it really looked like Thor, especially his facial expression and the blending of colors in the eyes.
